BiTetO-LacZ-rGDNF This transgenic line utilizes the Bujard bi-directional BiTetO promoter pBI-3 (http://www.zmbh.uni-heidelberg.de/Bujard/pBI/pBI-3.html) to mediate expression of a LacZ reporter and rat GDNF. When this line is crossed with another mouse transgenic line expressing a tTA transgene, the double transgenics will express rGNDF in specific tissues, determined by the tissue specificity of the promoter driving tTA. This mouse has been utilized in the following publications: Kholodilov N, Yarygina O, Oo TF, Zhang H, Sulzer D, Dauer W, Burke RE. Regulation of the development of mesencephalic dopaminergic systems by the selective expression of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor in their targets. Journal of Neuroscience, 2004, 24:3136-3146. Shakya R, Jho E-H, Kotke P, Wu Z, Kholodilov N, Burke RE, D’Agati V, Costantini F. The role of GDNF in patterning the excretory system. Developmental Biology, 2005, 283:70-84. This strain is available through the Mutant Mouse Regional Resource Centers (MMRRC) as strain MMRRC ID 10596. When this line is crossed with another mouse transgenic line expressing a tTA transgene, the double transgenics will express rGFRα1 in specific tissues, determined by the tissue specificity of the promoter driving tTA. This line is currently under development and in use by our Lab, and is available on a collaborative basis only. It has been described in abstract form: Kholodilov NG, J.Cho; O.Yarygina; R.E.Burke. Double transgenic mice overexpressing the GDNF receptor GFR 1 in corpus striatum under the control of the CaMKII promoter. Society for Neuroscience, 2005.
